Messauts lies directly at the bank of the "canal latéral",
a canal with many bridges and locks that runs from the Mediterranean
sea ( canal du Midi ) to near Bordeaux (canal latéral). |

4 km. distance there is a harbour in the small town called Fontet
where one can hire a boat or a canoe, swim and practice archery in
summer. The village has a Match Museum and a 15th century Church that
is worth a visit. |
Also
at 4 km. lies La Réole, a 1000 year old town on the right bank
of the river Garonne. There is a signed walking-route to view the
city, and one can take a boat-excursion on the river Places to visit
include the ancient monestery and the 4 museums ( Automobile,
Agriculture, Military, Railway ).
Each
Saturday there is a market on the quay where you can buy all the
regional products and 'people watch' from a sunny riverside café
